How the role of Product is evolving
From early 00s through to today how have we survived and thrived as a discipline
There have always been challenges faced by product professionals globally from the early days pre agile where we were still writing long word documents 100s of pages, handing these over to the development team who were housed in another building across campus hoping and crossing our fingers that they would build something that looked vaguely like what we had asked for…. Then suddenly our world shifted to post-its on a wall, walking across campus every morning “hey why are the product team here AGAIN!?! They were here yesterday!” [shocked face]
Whilst there was some fallout the engineers that remained, that wanted to work collaboratively began to enjoy their daily interactions and yes - you guessed it our product improved, we began to do this new fangled thing called iteration and customer testing - it was a beautiful thing.
Fast forward a decade and we saw big changes again with the world of data changing the landscape for software product management and development
Fast forward another decade and here we are again with the world of AI beginning to change both HOW we work as product managers SEE previous post but also what we can actually build into our products see Dave Martins post on the opportunities in GenAI and Product strategy.
